Happy and Healthy - The Odd Evolution of the Baby Carrot

I always wondered about baby carrots. The answer came in my inbox today. I have always been leery about them. It turns out they use carrots that otherwise would go to waste which is good. But they also douse them in chemicals before packaging and oddly want to start marketing them as junk food, which are both bad and odd. To find out more visit the link below...

Hi Anne-Marie! I have been meaning to respond to you on FB... anyway, yes, many people eat them, and we do from time to time, which is why I thought it was good for people to know. I have always been a bit leary of how some of the package seem REALLY wet and others not so much. It makes sense that to keep bacteria down on something that is peeled and washed that they have to do something. Anyway, we usually by a 2 lb bag of the regular organic carrots and wash and cut them ourselves, but of course it is time consuming... off to respond to you on FB...

Hi TIf!
I just caught up on your blog....I LOVE the new theme
its perfect for you, and rather ambitious, I might add, when are juggling your kiddos at the same time. What great ideas you've posted about already! Hope Quin is enjoying pre-school, and you are enjoying the Victory! We had a great time in Banff, and it was so nice to hang out with you and your family and enjoy... can't wait to see what else you'll come up with for your new blog theme!

i bought the old-fashioned kind at nestors yesterday-8 organic carrots for $3.49-the peeling does take time-bummer! i hate buying washed veggies but the organic baby carrots seem to do okay & last for a bit, sometimes they taste terrible though!

Great post Tiffany, I HAVE always wondered what the deal was with baby carrots!

I also just buy the 'normal' bags of carrots and peel them myself; it's not that big of a deal, although I like the idea that baby carrots save waste of 'ugly' normal carrots!
