I currently have work in a photography exhibit at the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies. This is the fourth show I have participated at this beautiful museum, which is very near my home. The Whyte puts out calls for local artists to submit work in particular themes for these juried shows. The accepted work is exhibited in the Museum Shop and the Swiss Guides Room. I submitted four images from my series, Seeing Double: Reflections On Human/Nature in Banff. The are all double exposure images made in camera, using a Polaroid Spectra. The opening for this show is March 24th from 1 - 4 PM. The show runs until May 22nd, 2012.

Photography Feature - Tea Time

Many people don't know that I hold two photography/art degrees from the University of Maine at Augusta. I made my living for many years as a professional photographer, shooting portraits and weddings in Maine, then maternity, baby, children, and families in the Ottawa/Gatineau regions of Ottawa and Quebec. Somewhere in there I started creating a lot of mixed media collage and switched from film photography to digital (although I still love analog photography, especially Polaroid which you can check out on my other blog). Even as a full time mom I can't make it through a day without making many many photographs, both of my kiddos, and of my favorite things. One of my favorite things is vintage tea cups. I have decided to make the lovely tea cups that I photographed while sharing tea time with a good friend in Maine this summer my first Photography Feature. There are more to come...

365 Days With Kiddos - #3 - Your Child's Art - Documentation & Storage

Are you looking for ideas for showcasing your child's artwork that doesn't involve hanging it on the fridge? Do you have so many of your child's art projects hanging around that you need to find a better way to store them? Is your child like my daughter, who can't bear to part with anything she made? Here are some ideas...

* Hang your child's art work on your walls. You can frame it or just use wall tack so you can change it from time to time.
* Put a cheery painting on your front door to greet your visitors and yourself. I blog about how-to in this post.
* Roll up flat art and store in a mailing tube.
* One of my favorite ways to document the art that my daughter makes, especially the 3-D items, is to photograph them. She also gets in on the action using her toy digicam. Then, we can show the creations to others and include them in photo albums. Since we begun doing this she has an easier time parting with the work we can't keep.

Do any of your have information to share on how you store your child's art? Please leave me a comment...

The Miss Match Diptych Project

Sunday Morning
Top Tiffany Teske
Bottom Kristi Jackson

As part of the Female Photographers of Etsy (fPOE), I have known about the Miss Match/fPOE diptych project for some time now. Talented photographers who sign up for a week, are given a partner and a theme, and the women make their photographs, then pair them together. The first time I participated my partner was Kristi Jackson of Life Through the Lens. Our theme was Sunday Morning. My image is at the top. I shot it through a two inch hole in the door of a building in the ghost town of Rowley, Alberta, while camping on the same weekend this image was due. Kristi shot her family's pairs of shoes, one for each member, lined up and ready to head out to church.

My second foray into the project, my wonderful partner was Gordana, of g(ART)en. My image is of the hands. I love how Gordana made a story with our images. A "dark fairytale" as one person commented...

My third time participating in the project my lovely partner was Galia, whose blog is called Through the Looking Glass... Lightly. My image is of the cupcakes, taken at my oldest daughter's birthday. The word we were trying to portray was "covet" which is a tricky one. I think our images tell the story.

For more of my photography, I have a blog called i heart polaroid...

Female Photographers of Etsy Release Their First Book, "She's a Rainbow"

Photo Mosaic by Amy Longberry

I have a shop on the popular handmade site, Etsy. I started selling on Etsy in 2007 and I am a member of several teams there. Teams do many things together like have group sales, hold member chats, write group blogs, and promote team members. Teams are usually formed around a theme or shared interest. One of my teams is Female Photographers of Etsy or fPOE, formed by fellow photographer, Elle Moss. The team was formed in 2009 and has over 200 members. As an admin on fPOE I have been working with team members Myan, Meganzii, Ligeia, Lililly,Shannonblue, Ena and the Swan, and Elle Moss, on our first group book, She's a Rainbow. We started the process back at the end of October. The book features four photographs from each of 58 talented members who chose to participate. The cover was designed by Myan, the cover photo is by ravencolours, and the intro was written by Futurowoman. The book is available through Blurb and can be viewed and purchased here. It has been wonderful to work on this colorful project with so many incredible female photographers.

Here are my images from the book:

February 16th - Frozen Charlotte Doll Heads

I have many little collections that serve me well when I go to make a mixed media piece or assemblage. I have a bit of a thing right now for Frozen Charlottes and German bisque doll parts. I just received a box of heads... and I realized, as my three and a half year old was helping me to unwrap and photograph them, that she accepts me just the way that I am. She doesn't question my weird habits and likes, she thinks all moms photograph doll heads by natural window light in the afternoon...

February 10th - Contact Sheets of My Loves

Wow, already Day 10 of Thing-A-Day. Lately, I have been testing my film cameras. I have 5 SLRs left over from my film days. Some are in rough shape and some are good but I needed to test them so I know which ones are which, since 3 of the bodies are exactly the same. I tested three of the five so far, and the contact sheets are here. Quin & Emmanuelle helped me and we had a ton of fun. Q wore several hats and even a fact full of jam for one roll. I really do love shooting film. It makes my heart all aflutter in a way I can't real explain, I just feel it and it makes me happy... stay tuned for more.

February 8th - Cozy Cave Cupcakes Shoot

I have been collaborating with a friend who makes truly amazing cupcakes at her bake shoppe, Cozy Cave. I am creating a line of greeting cards with cupcake images to sell in her shoppe and other places. She made me five gorgeous cupcakes to start with. I had a great shoot today but have not edited down the photos yet. Here is a selection...
